As long as I’ve been writing about old Times Square lately…

This past weekend I caught The Ultimate Drag Off, a weekly pageant fabulously hosted by my pal Sweetie at the Times Square Arts Center.

On stage, after the show.

Hoo-boy, if those Arts Center walls could talk!  The space used to be the porn palace Show World.  And I used to work there!

“Big Top” was the name of the party I promoted for a short while—I brought the drag shows, management supplied the go-go boys—in a gorgeous showroom with zillions of flashing lights.  The rest of Show World, all four floors, was an X-rated playground, and it was hilarious and thrilling to be part of such a naughty atmosphere.

Come into the light...!
Creamy skin! Misstress Formika and a dancer.
The beautiful people! Daisy, Lamar, Christie Love and pal.
Flloyd greets a dancer.
Afrodite strikes a pose.
Francine and the dazzling ceiling.

The places may change, but the drag queens endure forever and ever…

I’m thrilled to report that Dippity-Do-Drag was a gay old time!  Good nutty fun was had by all!

Please do it again, begged the crowd.  And you know what, I just might.

But I think I’d format the night a little different…

While it was a blast having so many great performers, next time I’d pare down the stage acts.  I was so busy organizing and hosting shows that I barely got to mix and mingle.

And there were so many fun people at the party I wanted to chat with!

Thanks to one and all for your wonderful support!

I had a blast last night sharing my prose at the Pitch reading series organized by comedian Greg Walloch and writer Mark Allen, who looks as fresh-faced and cute as when he was a ruling NYC go-go boy back in the day!

Seeing him in person reminded me of how much he resembles current go-go phenomenon Matthew Camp.  (Or is it visa versa?)

In many ways their personalities are also similar—upbeat, unpretentious, kinda goofy but smart.   Like Mark, Matthew enjoys collaborating on creative projects, including my photo novella Bitches in the Sky.

And in the latest Matthew update, he’s going to be part of Dippity-Do-Drag, the pop-up party I’m throwing on Friday!

He promises to be scantily clad!

My musical loving mom is in town.  So last night we went to the Broadway production of Priscilla Queen of the Desert (in previews before opening on March 20th), based on the 1994 Australian film.

Girlfriend, talk about a super faggy show!  Every scene, every musical number, every costume, every wig is bombastically garish and over-the-top, which I must say is very much in the spirit of drag from Down Under.

So if that sort of entertainment (including not one, but two confetti drops) tickles your fancy, break open the piggy bank and head for the Palace Theater.  Damn, Broadway is expensive…!
