It’s the day of my birth!

I already got an early present from my author pal Tim Murphy—a copy of his acclaimed new novel Christodara (named after the iconic apartment building on Tompkins Square Park).

I can read!
I can read!

It’s a fantastic story, spanning the 1980s to the near future, as various NYers cope with AIDS, gentrification, drug addiction and family conflicts. The vividly drawn characters will stay with me forever. (There’s even a cameo by best frenemy Lady Bunny and I still liked it!)

Speaking of NYC history… I’m having a happy-hour birthday party tonight at the “new” Cock. Come one, come all!

President Trump. Really? Major YUK! What a horrible decision to put that dangerous clown in the White House. Yesterday was for mourning his victory.

But today I got out of the house and went to a couple of historical and beautiful LGBT-themed art exhibits—”Gay Gotham” at Museum of the City of New York and illustrator Antonio Lopez’s retrospective at El Museo del Barrio. It was an invigorating reminder that even during the toughest of times our resilience and creative spirit shines through. It always has, it always will.

“Gay Gotham” includes several historical maps of New York. The map of downtown includes a  photo that I took at the Pyramid Club in 1992 (and is from my photo collection “The Drag Explosion.”)

Appreciating fabulous art is therapeutic!

I just agreed to go out to a bar tonight with someone and watch the presidential results come in as we gather with others. Hopefully we’ll be toasting our first female president!

And as we look forward… When will the next major barrier be broken? When will there be a gay president? (I should say “openly gay”; some historians believe Abe was on “our team.”)

Way back in 1988, writer Steve Lott fantasized about such a scenario in My Comrade, the underground gay magazine that I used to publish.

I think it’s hysterical!

R.I.P. Steve. I wish you were around to still provide your genius outlook on the world! Or maybe you’d be writing for People Magazine!

My weekend work schedule is hosting Bingo on Friday and Saturday nights at Le Poisson Rouge. Afterwards, I usually grab a cocktail and eat dinner with whoever is working with me that night. (I know drag queens aren’t supposed to be seen eating but this is a private affair.)

You can find us at the end of the bar, retiring on a couple of couches. I like to think of it as my own private lounge. Like every star deserves!
