I only got one photo from last night’s Cockiversary party. After all, the Cock isn’t the kind of place you want to whipping out your camera and making people feel self-conscious about their lewd behavior!

It was a fun event… Saw a lot of people I’ve known for years and met some new folks, too!

Last night I had a wonderful time at the Museum of the City of New York as part of a panel discussion about queer nightlife throughout the ages.

I managed to be fairly articluate and amazed the crowd with my vast knowledge of nightlife. (I’m old!)

Going home was a pain! Some friends and I took a cab down Fifth Avenue and ran into a hideous traffic jam. It wasn’t until we got further downtown that we realized it was due to the new extra ring of security around Trump Tower. Another reason to dislike the Donald!

Tomorrow I shall be venturing out again as I host the 18th anniversary of the Cock, NYC’s most notorious gay bar. My connection to the place is that I used to throw a very successful party called “Slurp” at its former location. So I’ve got sentimental value.

This Tuesday, December 6th, at 6:30pm, I am part of a panel at the City Museum of New York discussing the ongoing importance of queer nightlife in NYC. The event is in conjunction with the museum’s current “Gay Gotham” exhibit.

Hmm, I gotta think of something better than “Fag bars are good for getting drunk and making out with strangers.”

Having lived through the worst days of the AIDS crisis, I will never forget the suffering and deaths of many of my friends—and the unforgivable do-nothing response by our government (led by hideous President Reagan).
I was radicalized  during those years, and one of the most important lessons that I learned is that oppressed people always have to shout the loudest for any sort of justice to be served.
