In a few hours I’m fleeing NYC’s heat wave for California.   Gonna spend a couple of days in San Fran-Sissy-Co, then meeting my Mom at my godparents who live in a cute little town right on the Pacific Ocean.  Gonna hang with the oldsters, and I’m looking forward to some R & R.

I’ve been working nonstop these past few weeks putting together “The Drag Explosion,” my photo collection of NYC’s bygone drag scene.  And I’m thrilled to report that my first full-fledged presentation at Dixon Place was a smash success.

The standing-room only crowd was incredibly enthusiastic, and I’m very encouraged to do more events.  Yahoo!

The feedback included this very perceptive review by writer Emily Colucci at her arts blog Filthy Dreams.  Yay!

Okay, gotta run and pack for my trip!  Am I bringing drag attire?  No!  I’m on vacation!

I’m absolutely thrilled to be part of a new photo exhibit at Clamp Art in Chelsea’s gallery district.

The exhibit is titled “NYC, c. 1985” and features such heavy-hitters as Nan Goldin, Larry Clark and Amy Arbus.  It’s a great show that really captures the era’s gritty rawness and creativity.

My contribution is a slideshow of almost 50 snapshots that I took throughout the 1980s—of friends; celebrity events; nightlife, AIDS activism, etc.

It’s a very random and eclectic collection that reflects my own personal adventures as well as the incredible dynamism of New York back then.

My photo credit is “Les Simpson” since almost all the pictures were taken before Linda was born (in the late 1980s).

The show is up until July 3rd and I’ll be making a personal appearance on Saturday, June 8th, from noon to 2:30pm.  I was away for the show’s opening so it will be my own private opening.  (That sounds dirty!)

The drag-queen video parodies continue of the Scissor Sisters‘ summer dance floor hit “Let’s Have a KiKi.”

Sherry Vine, lover of potty humor, was the first to make a splash (ha ha) with “Let’s Have a Pee Pee.”

And now two more videos have been released, both titled “Let’s Have a Kai Kai.”  In case you’re unaware, “kai kai” is slang for drag queens having sex with each other.

Version number one stars Willam, the bratty blond from last season’s episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race, and L.A. queen Rhea Litre´.

Version number two stars NYC funny gals Lady Bunny, Bianca Del Rio and Sugga Pie Koko.

Who did it better?

Willam’s version offers better production values—and she shows off her boyish body (again).

Bunny’s version is amusingly rude and crude, but why is everyone wearing their clothes in bed?  Not that we want to see them naked!

You be the judge.  An as far as future parodies, Let’s Have a Quit-Quit, motherfucker!
