One of the world’s most famous fairy tales takes a sexy and campy gay twist in THE EMPEROR’S NEW CODPIECE, the latest offering by drag-queen playwright LINDA SIMPSON. The production marks Linda’s first theatrical undertaking above 14th Street!
Set during Medieval times, the play cheerfully shuns historical accuracy as the curtain rises on the Castle Club, the top “night spot for fops” in all the land. When the drag royalty is replaced by peasant go-go dancers, surviving queen Melinda (played by Simpson) must come up with a scheme to sabotage the dancers. Forsooth! Magic fabric to the rescue!
Laughs abound as yesteryear’s rollicking gay nightlife mirrors today’s scene. But there’s a sense of desperation as after-dark royalty fears for its slipping power, a brutal class system crushes dreams, and all the characters in one way or another confront hypocrisy, lies and delusion!
