Not Just a Pretty Face! Tabboo!’s Painting Exhibit at Howl Gallery

An exhibit by the artist known as Tabboo! (a.k.a. Stephen Tashjian) is on display at Howl Happening Gallery in the East Village, featuring 14 portraits of her nearest and dearest. (I’m not included, even though we’ve known each other for decades. Am I bitter? Of course not! I realize an artist must be free to choose her muses.)

Tabboo!, in orange, also mounted a one-night costume drama, as part of the exhibit. As you can see it was a colorful affair! (Photo by Miles Landin)

I snapped some pix of the performers with their portraits, including Brandon Olson.

Another of Tabboo!’s recent projects has been collaborating with designer Marc Jacobs. Anne Hanavan shows off a dress from the collection, adorned with Tabboo!’s signature swizzles and shapes.  (Anne’s portrait is also in the show.)

The show is up through Nov 12th. Highly recommended!
